Controlling the GI/M/I queue by conditional acceptance of customers

چکیده

In this paper we consider the problem of controlling the arrival of customers into a GI/M/1 service station. It is known that when the decisions controlling the system are made only at arrival epochs, the optimal acceptance strategy is of a control-limit type, i.e., an arrival is accepted if and only if fewer than n customers are present in the system. The question is whether exercising conditional acceptance can further increase the expected long run average profit of a firm which operates the system. To reveal the relevance of conditional acceptance we consider an extension of the control-limit rule in which the nth customer is conditionally admitted to the queue. This customer may later be rejected if neither service completion nor arrival has occurred within a given time period since the last arrival epoch. We model the system as a semi-Marker decision process, and develop conditions under which such a policy is preferable to the simple control-limit rule.

M M m K Queue With Additional Servers and Discouragement (RESEARCH NOTE)

Waiting in long queue is undesirable due to which in some practical situations customers become impatient and leave the system. In such cases providing additional servers can reduce long queue. This investigation deals with multi-server queueing system with additional servers and discouragement. The customers arrive in poisson fashion and are served exponentially by a pool of permanent and addi...

Note on the Gi/gi/1 Queue with Lcfs-pr Observed at Arbitrary Times

Consider the GI/GI/1 queue with the Last-Come First-Served Preemptive-Resume service discipline. We give intuitive explanations for (i) the geometric nature of the stationary queue length distribution and (ii) the mutual independence of the residual service requirements of the customers in the queue, both considered at arbitrary time points. These distributions have previously been established ...

Unreliable bulk retrial queues with delayed repairs and modified vacation policy

The present investigation deals with the bulk arrival M/G/1 retrial queue with impatient customers and modified vacation policy. The incoming customers join the virtual pool of customers called orbit if they find the server being busy, on vacation or in broken down state otherwise the service of the customer at the head of the batch is started by the server. The service is provided in k</em...

M m m Queue with Balking, Reneging and Additional Servers

In this paper, we consider a multi-server queuing system in which additional servers are allowed for a longer queue to reduce the customer’s balking and reneging behavior. The customers are assumed to arrive in Poisson fashion and their service- times follow exponential distribution. The number of servers in long run depends on the queue-length. We obtain equilibrium queue size distribution. Th...

Response Time Distribution in a D-map/ph/1 Queue with General Customer Impatience

This paper presents two methods to calculate the response time distribution of impatient customers in a discrete-time queue with Markovian arrivals and phase-type services, in which the customers’ patience is generally distributed (i.e., the D-MAP/PH/1 queue). The first approach uses a GI/M/1 type Markov chain and may be regarded as a generalization of the procedure presented in Van Houdt [14] ...
